MSC has announced the addition of a Cape Town call to its Iroko service rotation starting late January 2026 to strengthen supply chains from Asia to South and West Africa, optimizing transit times for consumer and energy goods.
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has officially announced a significant upgrade to its Iroko service. The highlight of this adjustment is the introduction of a new direct call at Cape Town, thereby enhancing connectivity between Asia, South Africa, and West Africa.
Optimized for Consumer Goods and Energy
According to MSC, this upgraded service is designed to support diverse cargo segments, including retail goods, solar panels, and other final consumer products.
The carrier emphasized that the Iroko service operates as a stand-alone offering—without slot-sharing with other alliances. This makes the service unique in the market and underscores MSC’s commitment to improving direct trade links between Africa and key global partners, particularly China.
New Schedule and Rotation
The first vessel to apply the new service configuration will be on voyage FN604A, scheduled to call at Ningbo on January 23, 2026.
Under the new arrangement, the full rotation of the Iroko service will be: Ningbo – Nansha – Singapore – Cape Town – Pointe-Noire – Cotonou – Apapa – Tincan/Lagos – Onne – Lobito – Cape Town – Singapore – Xiamen – Ningbo.
Enhancing Service Reliability
MSC stated that adding Cape Town as a direct call will improve service reliability and transshipment efficiency. Simultaneously, this provides customers with better access to African markets through a robust Asia–Africa transport corridor.
