Port of Melbourne begins to decline in container throughput in early 2023

Container throughput at the Port of Melbourne reached 257,227 TEU in January 2023, down 6.7% in January compared to the same period last year.

The Port of Melbourne reported that full container imports from overseas fell by 11.1% in January 2023, with furniture, metal manufacturing, home appliances, covers, toys and sporting goods all lower than last year’s output.

In addition, the total volume of overseas exports in Melbourne last month also decreased by 18.4% compared to the same period last year. Commodities such as fodder and fodder, pulp & waste paper, and dried milk all fell from last year’s production.
