The Evergreen vessel Ever Lunar lost approximately 50 containers overboard in Callao Bay, Peru, due to heavy rolling, forcing a temporary port closure to facilitate recovery efforts.

On August 1, a maritime incident occurred involving the loss of approximately 50 containers from the Taiwanese-flagged container ship Ever Lunar, operated by Evergreen, while the vessel was at anchor in Callao Bay, Peru. The ship experienced severe rolling, causing containers in the stern area to fall into the sea.

The incident forced the temporary closure of the Port of Callao, disrupting cargo operations and vessel traffic in the area. Operations at the DP World Callao and APM Terminals facilities, among others, were suspended.

Maritime security advisories have been issued, and vessel movements across the bay have been halted.

The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) of the National Civil Defense Institute (INDECI) confirmed that the lost containers do not contain hazardous materials. The National Port Authority (APN) reported that salvage operations will be carried out by professional salvage companies under the coordination of the Maritime Authority.

Two patrol boats, the Costa Sama and Río Chira, have been deployed to secure the area, while the tugboats Ram Vigo and Tiamat are positioned near the affected vessel in Callao Bay. Evergreen confirmed it has enlisted the support of tugboats to help recover the floating containers.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

This is the second container loss incident involving an Evergreen container ship in recent weeks. Previously, on July 29, the Ever Feat, another Evergreen vessel, suffered a container stack collapse while en route from Brazil to Uruguay. Approximately 30-40 containers were reportedly damaged during that voyage.
