DP World and Hapag-Lloyd extend 10-year partnership agreement at port of Santos, Brazil

DP World and Hapag-Lloyd have renewed their 10-year partnership agreement at the Port of Santos, Brazil, a move that coincides with DP World kicking off a terminal expansion project aimed at increasing capacity to 1.7 million TEU by 2026.

DP World, a leading global provider of logistics and supply chain solutions, has just announced the extension of a long-term agreement with Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s largest shipping lines, for its operations at the Port of Santos, Brazil. With this contract, both companies reaffirm their partnership and ensure the continuity of container handling operations for the next ten years.

To meet growing demand, DP World is advancing its plans to expand port capacity in the coming years. The expansion project will allow for the handling of new maritime services and volumes for Hapag-Lloyd, while also continuing to serve other shipping lines efficiently and sustainably, reinforcing DP World’s role as an independent and competitive terminal at the Port of Santos.

For Hapag-Lloyd, this agreement also provides a solid foundation to continue expanding its presence in the Brazilian market, ensuring predictability and efficiency in its business development in the region.

Santos Terminal Expansion Project

On August 21, 2025, DP World marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the quay extension works at the left bank of the Port of Santos. Scheduled for completion in August 2026, the project will add 190 meters to the existing quay, bringing the total length to 1,290 meters and enabling the terminal to accommodate larger container vessels.

The expansion also includes the procurement of new container handling equipment. With these investments, the terminal’s handling capacity will increase to 1.7 million TEU per year by 2026, making DP World Santos one of the most modern private multipurpose terminals in Brazil.
