CMA CGM Announces FAK Rate Increase on the Asia-Mediterranean Trade Lane Starting May 2026

CMA CGM has announced the implementation of new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates from Asian ports to the Mediterranean region, effective May 15, 2026. The highest adjustment reaches $7,200/FEU for the Algeria route, aimed at ensuring network operational efficiency.

Ocean carrier CMA CGM has officially announced an upward adjustment in its Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates. This is part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to maintain service stability and efficiency on key maritime routes.

The new tariff will apply to cargo shipped from all base ports in Asia to destinations in the Mediterranean region, including the West Mediterranean, Adriatic, East Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Algeria. According to the advisory, this new pricing structure will be effective for a short-term period, from May 15 through May 31, 2026.

Detailed Rate Breakdown by Region

Under the updated tariff, freight rates are specified for each container equipment type:

● West Mediterranean: Rates are set at $3,300 per 20-foot container and $4,600 per 40-foot container (including High Cubes).

● Adriatic Region: Rates will increase to $3,400 and $4,700 for the respective container types.

● East Mediterranean and Black Sea: Shipments will be subject to rates of $3,500 per 20-foot container and $4,800 per 40-foot unit.

● Algeria: This region records the steepest adjustment, with rates hitting the $5,100 mark for a 20-foot container and $7,200 for a 40-foot container.

Scope of Application and Strategic Objectives

These new FAK rates will apply to a wide variety of cargo types, including dry freight, reefers, out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments, and paying empty containers.

Explaining this decision, a representative of the ocean carrier stated that the adjustment aims to support service reliability and ensure operational efficiency across its network.

Amidst a constantly fluctuating ocean freight market, this move by CMA CGM demonstrates a proactive approach to balancing operational costs and a commitment to maintaining service quality for shippers on the Asia-to-Mediterranean trade lane.
