The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has officially called on the world’s leading shipping line, Maersk, to begin a phased resumption of vessel transits through the Canal, emphasizing the route’s enduring role as a critical artery for international trade.
According to the Daily News Egypt, the appeal was made by SCA Chairman Osama Rabie during a meeting with Denmark’s Ambassador to Egypt, Lars Bo Møller, and a Danish delegation at the Authority’s headquarters in Ismailia. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and exploring new opportunities for joint development between the SCA and Maersk.
Chairman Rabie highlighted recent achievements, including the upcoming inauguration of the Suez Canal Container Terminal expansion project at East Port Said. This project is expected to significantly boost the Canal’s competitiveness and logistical capabilities.

On his part, Ambassador Møller praised the partnership and reaffirmed Maersk’s commitment to the route, describing the Suez Canal as the “the main gateway for global trade.”
He also noted that Maersk is closely monitoring developments in the Red Sea as it prepares for a full resumption of regular transits as soon as conditions permit.
