Singapore and China have just signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formally establishing a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor aimed at promoting decarbonization and enhancing supply chain efficiency in the region.
The Ministry of Transport of Singapore and the Ministry of Transport of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Singapore–China Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC). The agreement was signed this past October 19, 2025, by Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, Mr. Jeffrey Siow, and China’s Minister of Transport, Mr. Liu Wei, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation.
This MoU elevates the partnership to a national level, following previous city- and provincial-level initiatives with Tianjin and Shandong, which were launched in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Under this new framework, both countries will collaborate with industry stakeholders to:
- Promote the decarbonization of the maritime industry.
- Improve port and supply chain efficiency.
- Develop supporting technologies, infrastructure, and standards to encourage sustainability and digital transformation across the industry.
The agreement also focuses on enhancing digitalization in shipping operations by leveraging data-driven systems to boost efficiency, transparency, and resilience across the entire value chain.
By combining their strengths in manufacturing, supply chain ecosystems, regulation, and finance, Singapore and China aim to drive innovation and the practical implementation of green and digital initiatives in the global shipping industry.
The establishment of the Singapore–China Green and Digital Shipping Corridor reflects a shared commitment by both nations to sustainable growth, technological advancement, and greater maritime connectivity in the international transport sector.
