Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Gold Star Line (GSL) will launch a joint service at the end of March, which will link several ports in Asia and Africa.

The new product, which Hapag-Lloyd named the East Africa Service 3 (EA3) and ONE called EAF will offer direct weekly sailings between China, Southeast Asia, Kenya and Tanzania.

The new service, which is out of the scope of THE Alliance, will consist of seven boxships of 2,800TEU nominal capacity each, with two of them operated by Hapag-Lloyd, another two by ONE and the three other vessels by GSL.

The port rotation will be Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Singapore – Port Kelang – Mombasa – Dar Es Salaam – Port Kelang – Singapore – Shanghai.

The service will start from Shanghai on 31 March 2021, according to ONE’s statement.

Hapag-Lloyd expects the new product to offer “excellent connectivity to its Global Mainliner network via ports in Singapore and Shanghai, providing vast connections between East Africa and the world,” while ONE believes that the new service will complement its existing Asia-East Africa services (EA1/EA2), “giving customers additional service options and greater flexibility.”
