The overall container volume of major Chinese ports rose 3.5% year-on-year from January to March reaching 69.7 million TEUs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the same period, the overall cargo volume of the Chinese ports climbed to over 3.8 billion tons translating to a year-on-year growth of 6.2%.<\/p>\n

The following chart shows the cargo throughput and container throughput data of the twelve major ports in China.<\/p>\n

As seen in the table, the port of Shanghai has remained the busiest port of the country with 11.47 million TEUs, despite its year-on-year container volume decline.<\/p>\n

The port of Ningbo & Zhoushan is the second busiest box port in China with 8.19 million TEUs, achieving a year-on-year increase of 3.5%. In the third place, we find the port of Shenzhen with 6.17 million TEUs, however with a year-on-year drop of 4.9%.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the largest percentage growths were registered at the ports of Dalian, Yinkou and Rizao. Dalian marked a year-on-year container growth of 19.7%, Yinkou achieved a 16.9% increase and Rizao saw its TEU volumes rise 15.8%.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Shanghai and Shenzhen were the only ports that suffered a container volume decline. Shanghai reported a 6.4% container volume decrease, while Shenzhen port saw its box throughput fall by 4.9%.<\/p>\n
